I want to get married!

We are pleasd to celebrate with you a Christian service of marriage, and to share with you an ongoing ministry in support of couples and families. We offer a loving Christian community to support you and your family beyond the wedding ceremony.

Our Wedding Policy

At Oakridge United, we believe every person is a unique, loved, creation of God and that relationships are living things that require preparation and nurture.

As a congregation of the United Church of Canada, our ministers celebrate weddings as a Christian service of worship, in the context of a Christian community of faith, and our community is broad and accepting.

We are open to celebrating the marriage of:

Regular church-goers AND those who rarely attend church Including:

  • People who are single
  • People who are living together
  • Previously divorced people
  • Couples of different genders
  • Couples of the same gender

We believe God intends loving relationships to be faithful, responsible, just, healing and sustaining the couple, and a gift to those around them.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do we have to be members of Oakridge United to be married there?

For a wedding service, it is not necessary to be a member.

Who will preside at our wedding?

Our minister, or one of our designated ministers will be happy to preside and will help you plan the service.

What kind of music can we have?

We work with several wonderful musicians who can play most common wedding music, and can make arrangements with you for special favourites.

Do we need to take a marriage preparation course?

Yes. To prepare you for your lives together, it is a requirement that you attend pre-marital counseling or courses, and the minister can provide a list of courses offered nearby.

Are we allowed to photograph or videotape?

Yes! HOWEVER, while the service is in progress, ONLY your designated photographer may take non-flash photographs. The photographer should speak to the minister or hostess about appropriate placement for photographs.

May I have flowers & decorations in the sanctuary?

Yes. Flowers can be delivered one hour prior to the service and we try to accommodate time for decorating the sanctuary.

What about confetti, rice etc.

Sorry – No. To protect our building and the environment, these are not to be used in the church or around the entrances.

Do we need to pay a deposit?

There is a $100 deposit payable at the time of booking. The balance must be paid 30 days prior to the wedding.
