Music
Music is an important part of the life and worship at OUC. Music for adults, music for children, music for all of us! Our worship is musical, and functions to proclaim and support the Scriptures. We raise our voices in congregational song to praise God, to pray, to proclaim God's word and to tell the story of God's people. Anthems and hymns are carefully selected by the Ministers to support the scriptures and theme for each Sunday of the church year, ensuring a cohesive and inspiring Christian experience.
The choir explores and sings a broad range of music in many styles, unison and harmony. Any Sunday may include Gregorian Chant or Spirituals, Baroque or Taizé, Renaissance or contemporary music. The choir is spiritually and musically centered. Rehearsal are energetic and fast paced, covering weekly hymns, responses, and 6-10 anthems at each practice. Vocal technique is discussed and applied to the music. During Advent and Lent the choir sometimes has extra mini-rehearsals after church. Although the Bell Choir also meets seasonally on Sunday after the coffee hour, from 11:15am to 12:15 in the Library of the Lower Hall.
If you have the desire and ability to sing at your best in the ‘Courts of the Lord’, there is a home for you as a chorister or bell-ringer at Oakridge United Church. Please contact the church office at 604-327-5475.

HANDBELL CHOIR – COMMITMENT
Oakridge United Church has a 3-octave set of bronze metal bells made by Mallmark Bells. The bells and equipment, including carrying cases, music stands, tables and table covers, gloves, polish, mallets, were acquired by memorial funds honouring many past members of Oakridge United Church. The bell choir consists of between 7-11 people and rehearses in the weeks preceding Easter and Christmas. We develop new musical skills as well as enjoy a time of comradeship and friendship.
The bells are used at each Sunday worship during the Passing of the Peace and at the Prayers of the People.
